Criss-crossing between contemporary and tropical influences, Rouge in Wood is a waterfront townhouse that offers a relaxing haven away from the urban hustle and bustle. The integration of natural stone, wood, and greenery enhances its tropical Balinese-style, creating a seamless connection with nature.
The interior of Rouge in Wood is adorned with woodgrain decorations and tasteful furniture, exuding a warm and cozy atmosphere. The timber cladding on the ceiling adds a touch of spectacle to the space. This waterside sanctuary perfectly combines nature and architecture, providing a unique living experience.
Despite the trend of modular design, Vault Design Lab highlights the spirit of craftsmanship in the creation of Rouge in Wood. The kitchen's island, made from local Nyatoh solid wood, showcases the team's dedication to natural materials and meticulous attention to detail. Extensive experiments were conducted to achieve the anticipated thickness of the countertop without compromising its strength and waterproof properties. The result is a stunning piece that embodies the beauty of the design process.
This three-story waterfront apartment spans a total area of 4630sqft and features an infinity pool on the rooftop, offering breathtaking views of the waterfront.
The entrance of Rouge in Wood opens up to a magnificent sea view, creating a sense of spaciousness. The use of natural woodgrain brings warmth to the interior, showcasing the essence of Balinese design. Cement ventilation blocks define the connection between spaces and provide a sense of privacy before accessing the first floor. Full-height timber louvers blur the boundaries between rooms, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship at every corner.
The project, which started in November 2016 and finished in July 2017, was located in Penang, Malaysia. Extensive research was conducted to integrate natural elements with craftsmanship, resulting in a harmonious blend of Nyatoh solid wood, Balinese furniture, chamfered wooden ceilings, and cement vent blocks.
Rouge in Wood presented several challenges during its renovation. Given its seaside location, the use of authentic natural materials required delicate treatment. Moisture control was a primary concern, particularly with the Nyatoh solid wood used for both the panels and ceiling. Strict measures were taken to ensure the wood was properly handled and maintained at an acceptable moisture level of 6 to 8 percent.
Criss-crossing contemporary and tropical influences, Rouge in Wood is a waterfront townhouse that perfectly creates a visual discourse into a relaxing and reviving haven, stripped away from the hustle and bustle of the city. With its integration of natural elements and meticulous craftsmanship, this house is a beautiful choreography between nature and architecture.
